East Coast Modern is a natural extension of an architectural and interior design practice, where the founder seamlessly integrates architectural expertise with a deep passion for furniture design. We revive classic design pieces from various art periods and infuse them with a modern touch to create bespoke solid wood furniture and lighting.
Architect Mohammed Safvan — founder and creative director of East Coast Modern. An alumnus of the Measi Academy of Architecture, Mohammed brings architectural sensitivity to furniture design and workshop practice.
We source reclaimed timbers (Burma Teak, Indian Laurel) and new species such as White Ash & White Oak — all carefully seasoned for exceptional grain and durability.
Our in-house team brings generations of carpentry & joinery skills ensuring precision and distinctive finishes on every piece.
Hand-weaving using rattan, papercord, paracord, jute and sabai grass rope — each pattern hand-crafted by skilled artisans from Pondicherry.
